Dear Parents

Year 6 SATs

We are very proud of Year 6 this week, who approached their SATs with calmness, confidence and focus, reflecting the preparation and support they have received from the whole team. Each morning began with a special breakfast organised by the staff, giving the children a relaxed and positive start to their day, and it was great to see them come in ready to give their very best.

A special thank you goes to Pino, a valued past parent, who brought his ice cream van to school on Thursday, much to the delight of both children and staff!  We are very grateful to the Friends Association for funding this annual treat.

The Year 6 children were all very excited to find out that their end of year performance for their parents is, ‘High School Musical’.

RSE Drop in

Thank you to the staff who supported parents at the Relationships and Sex Education (R.S.E.) drop-in session yesterday and thank you to the parents who came along. We hope you found the session helpful and felt comfortable asking any questions you had. It was great to share some of the resources we use in lessons and to talk through how we support the children.

Peace Garden

On Thursday, Mrs Copeman, Miss Knapp and our parent volunteer, Mr Williams, took the Year 1–4 School Council children to meet with Tracey and the Friends of Abington Park team to continue their fantastic work in the Peace Garden.

The children had a wonderfully busy afternoon making decorations for the information board, planting flowers in the garden beds, decorating flowerpots, sowing cosmos and sunflower seeds, setting up a cress propagator and even helping with some weeding! They were also excited to spot a young woodpecker living in the trees nearby and were delighted to see how well the foxgloves, grown from seed a few weeks ago, are thriving in the Bridgewater flower beds.

Everyone is already looking forward to the next session in June.

A huge thank you to Tracey and her team for delivering such enthusiastic and engaging outdoor learning sessions. It has been lovely to see both the children — and the flowers — flourishing in Abington Park! If you have time this weekend, why not visit the Peace Garden and see it for yourself?

Walk to School Week

Next week it is National Walk to School Week. The initiative, founded by ‘Living streets’, aims to encourage more people to walk, wheel, scoot, or cycle either all or part of the way to school. The benefits of doing so are plentiful; increased wellbeing, greater awareness of the outdoors, less congestion and reduced carbon emissions to name a few!

We therefore encourage you to walk, wheel, scoot or cycle to school and see the benefits for yourselves! If walking all the way just isn’t possible, consider parking a little further from school and walking the remainder of the way.

Look out for your child’s ‘five-day challenge’ Activity Diary, which they will be bringing home from school this afternoon!

Have a lovely weekend

Alison Harvey
