Dear Parents
Black History
On Monday, children from across the school came together for a special assembly to celebrate their learning from Black History Month. We explored inspiring stories and contributions from remarkable individuals throughout history.
Children shared what they had discovered about Rosa Parks, Bessie Coleman, and Mary Seacole. Kaiser shared with us his homework about Malcolm X, who stood up for justice and equality, and Daniel created a detailed map of Nigeria, where he was born. Year 5 also taught us about the Hidden Figures, the incredible mathematicians who worked for NASA and played a key role in the first space missions.
Finally, Adiya shared her knowledge and passion for Maya Angelou, reminding us of her powerful message to “Be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.”
It was an uplifting assembly that celebrated learning, courage and the rich diversity of our school community.
Bridgewater Remembers
On Monday, Year 1 children walked to St Christopher’s Care Home cheerfully in the rain to deliver the poppies they had made with the residents in our STEM room. The wreath, created by Mrs Copeman and Mrs Arnold, was received with delight and will be proudly displayed. St Christopher’s kindly gifted us a book by Michael Rosen for our library. We also marked Remembrance Day with a reflective assembly, where Mr Lagdon played The Last Post beautifully.
Book Fair
Thank you to Mrs Tasher for running the Book Fair after school each day including throughout the Parents Evenings. This has once again been a big success raising £850 for the school to purchase new books for our classes and library. Keep reading everyone!
Parents Evenings
Thank you to everyone who attended our Parents’ Evenings. There was a wonderful sense of community and a lovely atmosphere throughout the school, with an excellent turnout despite the grey weather. We’re especially proud of our polite and welcoming Child Ambassadors and grateful to our dedicated teachers.
No Sweets
Please remember there should be no sweets in school for lunch or snacks. Also, a definite NO to nut-based products due to some potential severe allergic reactions in school.
No Trainers
Please note that trainers should only be worn for PE and shouldn’t be worn all day.
Respect for Neighbours and Nature
Please remind children not to pick flowers from front gardens, especially the fuchsias on Calstock Crescent. We’d like to help keep everyone’s gardens looking lovely—thank you for your understanding and support.
Year 5 Multi-Sports
Bridgewater Year 5 children had a great day at NSG taking part in various activities, acting responsibly and respectfully to the Young Leaders from NSG.
Smart Phone Free School
Well done to the staff, parents and children who worked with the Look East team this week. We are particularly proud of the children who spoke articulately expressing their views about the changes in policy, Jasmine, Everly, Ike and Adiya. We will let you know when it is being aired.
Message from Friends
The Friends are busy preparing for the Christmas Fair which is happening on Friday 5th December. You should now have received your raffle tickets, should this not be the case, or you require any additional tickets, please contact the friends at
Volunteers are still required for the fair so if you are able to give up an hour of time to help man a stall, it would be very much appreciated.
Lastly, the children have been working hard to create their Christmas cards again this year. Flyers should come home in book bags next week, to enable you to view your child's creations. Orders can be placed via the website www.mychildsart.co.uk/order
The login is Bridgewater and passcode is mksxdeka, to receive 10% off your order, please use code BridgewaterX25
Purchasing Christmas cards via this website raises funds for the Friends which directly benefits the children of Bridgewater Primary School.
Have a lovely weekend
Alison Harvey
