Dear Parents
Harvest Play
Well done Year 4 for performing the Harvest play, ‘Project Planet’ with such enthusiasm and quality. The children were well prepared and sang with great energy and passion from the first note. The actors all spoke up clearly and confidently and the children looked fabulous in their costumes. They flourished just like the flowers and insects in the story.
Thank you for your generous donations to the Harvest Collection organised by Mrs G Douglas which is greatly appreciated by the Three Pillars and the homeless. Jo Silvestre writes:
Dear Bridgewater Staff, Pupils, and Families,
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks for the wonderful donations you collected at your Harvest Festival in support of St James Three Pillars. Your generosity and kindness truly reflect the caring spirit of your school community.
The food and items you have so thoughtfully given will help us continue to prepare and serve hot, home-cooked meals twice a week for those who are homeless or struggling, as well as support local families and individuals in need.
Your contributions do more than fill plates — they bring warmth, comfort, and hope to people facing difficult times. It is so inspiring to see young people and their families working together to make a real difference in our community.
Once again, thank you for your compassion and support. We are truly grateful for your partnership in helping us care for others.
With warmest regards and appreciation,
Jo Silvestre

Bridgewater Football Team
Our Bridgewater football team came 3rd out of 18 schools at a tournament at Moulton with Cody and Laurent scoring some impressive goals. Well done team.
New Hut for Early Years
The Early Years team have a brand new, large hut built in the grass area and have great plans for the children. On the side is a big window where the children will be able to view the pond through binoculars – young bird watchers!
MacMillan Coffee Morning
Every year Mrs Burrows organises a MacMillan Coffee Morning for staff in memory of Mrs Biddle who inspired our love of Forest Schools and developed the pond and forest school areas. She would have smiled to see Early Years with their binoculars looking for birds around the pond. The staff throw themselves into this by generously baking cakes, eating cakes and raising over £567.37 for the nurses who looked after Mrs Biddle and as well as many others. Thank you to the talented Mrs Copeman who baked an incredible raffle prize won by the lucky Miss Brack, who shared it with everyone … at a £1 a slice … for the charity of course – very entrepreneurial!
Keeping Safe
Thank you to PCSO Rose and PC Holly who delivered clear messages to the children about keeping safe at Halloween and on Bonfire night.
Smartphones
As it is the end of term, we are re-emphasising that this is a Smartphone Free School. Year 5 and Year 6 can bring a call only phone to school which needs to be handed in to the adults waiting on the slope in the morning.
Can we remind all adults that they need to wait until they are off the school site to use their phones, thank you.
Shoe Laces
Due to the invention of Velcro, tying shoelaces is becoming a dying art! However, many children still have shoes with laces which trail behind them and trip them up because they can’t tie them well … yet!
Half term activity – please can the children learn to tie up shoelaces during half term if they can’t do so already – a little practise each day will get them there in no time. This will really help their confidence and stop them tripping up.
Happy Diwali – Festival of Lights
Miss Sheikh, our R.E. leader writes: This week, our school has been learning about Diwali, an important festival in the Sanātana Dharma (Hindu) tradition, known as the Festival of Lights. Through stories, creative activities, and thoughtful discussions, children across all year groups explored the meaning and values behind this celebration - including kindness, gratitude, sharing, reflection, and unity. They learned how Diwali marks the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, and how it encourages people to welcome peace and positivity into their lives.
This has helped pupils deepen their understanding and respect for diverse beliefs while celebrating the shared British Values that bring our communities together.
We look forward to seeing you back in school on Monday 3rd November and don’t forget the clocks go back!
Have a lovely half term
Alison Harvey
