Dear Parents

Science Week Competition Winners

Mrs Hallett announced the winners of the Science Week competition, “What’s Your Question?”, during Monday morning’s assembly. She was impressed by the fantastic entries from across the school, which truly showcased the children’s curiosity. She also enjoyed seeing the creative ways pupils explored their ideas and presented their findings.

Mrs Hallett explained why the winning entries stood out and presented each winner with a certificate and a science kit to help them continue their passion for science at home.

Congratulations to our winners:

  • Evie B (Van Gogh) – How do plants grow?
  • Matthew (1 Ringgold) – How do aeroplanes fly?
  • Isabella (2 Kahlo) – How does a candle draw water up into a glass?
  • Emily (3 Hockney) – How do our lungs work?
  • Hugo B (4 Cromer) – Can an egg be protected with a tissue parachute?
  • Annie (5 Pichardo) – Can I pick up ice with a piece of string?
  • Maya (6 Biss) – Does an ice cube melt faster depending on the liquid it is in?

Termly Learning Conferences

Thank you for attending the TLC’s this week; we have had positive feedback from parents and children, who have enjoyed sharing their learning with you.

Living Eggs

After a wonderful couple of weeks, where the Reception children have been enthralled by seeing the eggs in the unit hatch into 5 very healthy ducklings, it’s time to say goodbye. Three ducklings have already been taken to the home of one of our families, where they are settling in very well amongst the chickens. The two remaining ducklings will return to the farm. We have ensured that the company we work with has an ethical policy and the ducklings will be well cared for after they leave us.

Ceramics

Year 5 have been thoroughly enjoying their ceramics unit – they have been making coil pots. The STEM room is full of some incredible creations and children are developing their confidence and skill in this area of the art curriculum. Thank you to Mrs Copeman who has guided the children and teachers to develop this within the school. She has been very impressed with the children’s focus and they have produced some very unique pieces.

Sunshine!

It’s refreshing to see the sun out in the last few days, but please remind your children to bring their jumpers or a light coat to school, as it is often still chilly at break and lunchtime play if the sun disappears! Thank you!

Online Safety Webinar

Mrs Redden shared information earlier this week regarding an upcoming Knowlsey Online Safety Webinar that will take place on Wednesday 6th May from 4pm to 4.45pm. It will provide information about social media and livestreaming, covering latest trends and emerging threats, while helping you develop an understanding of these platforms, the associated risks and steps that can be taken to support children. Look out for the link to access the session, which will be sent out via ParentMail one week before the event.

Have a relaxing weekend,

Frances Troop
