The children all looked fabulous in their numbered outfits in celebration of this years NSPCC Number Day. We started of the morning thinking of different ways to represent the number 5 on our whiteboards. The children came up with so many wonderful ideas...Numberblock 5, part, part whole models, number sentences, Numicon, pictorial representations, dominoes, dice patterns and even hand outlines. 

We then shared the whole school focus text '365 penguins' and discussed how the penguins multiplied during the story. The children were fascinated to learn that there are 365 days in a year! 

They were then given the challenge to share 6 penguins out between two icebergs as they explored the composition of number 6..."3 penguins and 3 penguins makes the whole of 6 penguins."
