It was great to welcome families into the Reception classrooms on Friday morning as part of our Number Day celebrations. The children were full of excitement as they explored the contnious provsions areas, sharing their maths learning with their adults.
The children modelled building '5 wise' on the tens frame to count on to represent on 6, 7, 8, they used the part, part whole model to explore the composition of 6,7,8 and recorded their calculations in number sentences... "5 and 2 makes the whole of 7!" There was discussion about circles, squares, rectangles, triangles and cylinder shapes as kites and windmills were made in the creative area and capacity vocabulary was shared as the children explored filling containers in the water tray.
The maths did not end there... there were cars being raced and distance measured in the construction area, doubling dice games on the carpet "5 and 5 makes the whole of 10," doubles printing in the artroom, coins being counted in the home corner and measuring stories being shared in the book corner!
Here at Bridgewater Primary we are immersed in maths in every corner of the provision and absolutely love all of our number, shape and pattern learning.
A big thank you to all of the families that came to join us, we hope that you found it useful to see how maths can be a fun part of our everyday lives!
