The children have enjoyed learning about Miss Williams' class artist Yayoi Kusama. She is a Japanese artist who is known as ‘The Princess of Polka Dots.’ She is famous for drawing colourful spotty pumpkins and ‘Infinity Nets.’
First we learnt how to draw a Kusama style pumpkin. We practised in pencil on drawing paper and then experimented with oil pastels on newspaper. We had to be very careful not to tear it. Miss Williams was so proud she put our pictures in the art gallery.
Next we made Kusama pumpkin printing blocks using glue and string on a design we drew onto cardboard. It was tricky manipulating the string into the right place along the lines.
When the printing blocks were dry, we used rollers to cover them in paint and printed out designs onto brown paper.
After waiting for the prints to dry we used a cotton bud to add the spots onto our pumpkins. Our work will be displayed in the classroom and also on our artist board in the art room. Please come and see it!
