Fire Brigade Visit!

We were lucky enough to have a visit from the Moulton Fire Brigade this term. The children were in awe of the fire engine and listened with interest as the firefighters taught the children about all of its features from the hoses, ladders and sirens, to the tools to help rescue people from cars. Every child experienced being a 'real' firefighter as they each sprayed the hose, they commented how powerful it was! Finally they all had the opportunity to climb into the fire engine to experience how big the vehicle is!

Back in the classroom we met Firefighter Norm who talked to the children about the importance of having a smoke alarm in their home. He offered to fit a free one if any of the Bridgewater families do not have one. (Please give your name and address in at the office and we will pass the information on.) The children learnt that they should phone 999 in an emergency and ask for the fire service. We also watched Fireman Sam who taught the children a song and actions to remember if their clothes were ever to catch fire... "STOP, DROP and ROLL."

Finally Norm talked to the children about the importance of staying safe near water. He reminded the children never to walk on frozen lake and that if a friend was to get stuck in water, you can use an empty water bottle to throw to them to use as a float. Norm's final top water safety tip was to stretch your body into a starfish shape if you ever fall into water as this will help you to float!

A huge thank you to Moulton Fire Brigade for giving up your time to speak with the children, they had a wonderful time and learnt so many top safety tips!
