Outdoor Learning Continued...

This week Kandinsky Class and Van Gogh Class enjoyed their outdoor learning days in the schools forest school areas. We were very lucky with the weather as the rain held off. The children loved getting wrapped up in their outdoor clothes and wellington boots.

When we arrived at the forest we played a group game of 123 where are you and Mrs Squirrel, were the children had too try to sneak up behind Mrs Squirrel and steal her acorns. The children were very good and proved hard to catch out!

The children were then free to explore the forest area and engage in the activities. Autumal leaves were collected and tyres rolled. Some children used the binoculars to look for birds and learnt how to name some such as Greenfinch, Sparrow and Robin. The children enjoyed making rainbow sticks and some even weaved poppies for Remembrance Day. There was natural artwork created using conkers inspired by the work of artist James Brunt and clay faces were made on the tree bark. Great fun was had as we attempted to build a den for the Gruffalo and delicious food was made in the mud kitchen! We even had a visit from a couple of ladybirds!

In our afternoon session the children learnt how to light a fire and essential fire safety rules. We all sat around the fire pit and sang some rather funny campfire songs with great enthusiasm after enjoyed toasting giant marshmallows and drinking warming hot chocolate and warm blackcurrant. A super time was had by all and we cannot wait until our next forest school session!
