VE Day Celebrations!

With the childrens help we have been decorating the nursery to celebrate Victory In Europe Day (VE Day.) We used red, white and blue decorations to enhance the role play area, including some exciting new dress up items for the children to play with. We also used balloons and created a patriotic picnic which the children enjoyed thoroughly.

In the afternoon we decorated the atelier room with red, white and blue bunting for our VE day street party! We had cucumber sandwiches, fruit, cakes and a biscuit, whilst listening to some music from the era. We then explained what VE day is about and why it's an important part of our countries history to remember all the people that helped protect us and our country. We spoke about what happened to children during that time, that they were sent away from the cities to live in the countryside to keep them safe. We finally discussed the prime minister 'Winston Churchill' that he was an important person during that time and that he announced the end of WW2 on a radio broadcast.

All the children enjoyed taking part in the activities.
