Salt Dough Factory.
Early years have been enjoying the Salt dough Factory which has taken over the Green room.
The children followed a simple recipe and worked in teams to make their salt dough mixture independently.
They loved the measuring and mixing of ingredients which is great for their maths and science thinking and questioning. They looked at how the ingredients combined and changed throughout the process.
The factory was set up into three stations. The first station was measuring the ingredients, using the recipe as guidance.
The second station was for mixing the ingredients together. They built up quite a sweat mixing as thoroughly as they could! The third station was for kneading out the mixture and making a creation of their choice.
Finally, the children were encouraged to make an evaluation sheet, outlining whether their dough was successful or not, and whether they could improve their dough next time.
Making salt dough was a fantastic opportunity for the children to use their problem solving skills. They had to make judements about what to do if their mixture was too dry or too sticky. It required a little bit of experimentation but everyone was capable.
The dough factory was so popular that we will be having a smaller, permanent dough making station in the provision. Watch this space!
