Dear Parents
Science Week
We have had a very exciting science week. Mrs Hallett started off the week with a whole school assembly where she introduced the theme of ‘Time’ and demonstrated how we are all scientists. We would like to extend our thanks to the volunteers who have carried out talks and workshops this week. It has been invaluable for the children to be exposed to different scientists and how science fits into our everyday lives.
The lunchtime workshops, which have been run by the science ambassadors, have proved very popular. It was lovely to see the older children engage the younger children in fun science experiments which created awe and wonder. It is still not too late to enter the ‘Do science with me!’ challenge with the closing date being on Friday 22nd March; we can't wait to see the creative ideas the children have come up with. Please visit our class blogs and social media platforms for more detail about what we have been up to this week.
Gymnastics
The Year 2 gymnastic team were triumphant in a Pacesetter competition hosted at Bridgewater this morning against nine other schools! They showed great skill and flair and were delighted with their well-deserved trophy.
TLCs
Don’t forget to book your Year 6 Termly Learning Conference (TLC) appointment with the class teachers. The Year 6 Termly Learning Conferences take place on Monday 25th March and Wednesday 27th March.
Information regarding the Reception to Year 5 Termly Learning Conferences will be coming out to you this afternoon with bookings opening on Monday 18th March at 5pm.
It will be a lovely opportunity to meet with your child and the class teacher for them to talk through their reflections about their strengths and ways forward for the next term.
Easter Eggs
Thank you for your generous donation of eggs for Jeanette’s charity supporting vulnerable young adults. It will be lovely to think of those smiles at Easter time when they receive their eggs. The children looked great in their MUFTI Easter bonnets and bunny ears.
Cubbie
We have purchased a new piece of equipment called a Cubbie, which we have installed in the Nurture room. It is to support individuals to regulate and either feel calmer or more energised. This happens by using a computer programme to select a coloured light background, an audio and a video ranging from landscapes including underwater scenes, turtles, penguins or even a dancing cat which the children love!
We have been trying it out and have all felt the calming effects. It could be planned alongside occupational therapy advice, and we can collate statistics to gather feedback about its effectiveness. We have seen children who are quite introverted laughing out loud and talking animatedly about it, and others who have found it relaxing and calming. There are two types of swing seat and a static soft chair. We will ensure Year 6 all get to have an opportunity to experience it before they leave and work our way through the school as well as targeting children who may have particular sensory needs that it can meet. Thank you to the Friends who have agreed to support us with this exciting purchase.
Lateness
We are recording an increasing number of late marks on entering school. Please set your alarm clocks and come into school on time ready for the day. The morning work starts at 8.45am which can be a crucial time for consolidating learning and catching up with reading, times tables etc. We hope to see you all bright and early next week.
Have a lovely weekend.
