As we come to the end of the winter term we have been up to some exciting things at nursery. We recapped 5 currant buns, and have made currant buns for the children to enjoy at snack time. As a school we took part in number day and have been focusing a lot on our maths skills. We’ve been printing shapes using different materials, working on our number recognition and counting. We made some delicious soup to enjoy at snack time, the children were very interested in the changing state of the vegetables. And finally enjoying some tricky obstacle courses in the outdoor area.
We had lots of fun on number day! There was many different activities in the setting. At the creation station we had number blocks colouring, the children enjoyed colouring them in but also it helped them with their counting skills. We also enjoyed shape printing; we used different recyclable materials and dipped them into paint to print different pictures onto the paper. In the blue room we also had shape puzzles, this helped the children with their shape and colour recognition, and they enjoyed making different pictures with the shapes.
For snack we made vegetable soup. We used 1 onion, 1 pepper, 6 big tomatoes and 4 carrots. The children helped to cut up the vegetables, put them into the pot and added vegetable stock. The grownups cooked and blended up the soup. Every child tried the soup and enjoyed it. It was interesting for the children to talk about the change of state of the vegetables and good for them to try something new. It was lovely to hear the discussion between children and adults about the ingredients and the children’s experiences of food.
Finally, in the outdoor area we have been working on our gross motor skills. The children have been challenged to set up obstacle courses for the area. This really helps with their resilience and physical development, such as balancing and jumping with two feet.
We hope you all have a lovely half term!
