Christmas Time!

At Nursery the run up to Christmas has been full of exciting activities. Starting with Reverend Tracey coming in to tell us all about the first Christmas, having Christmas dress up in our role play area, creating our Christmas decorations, our nursery Christmas party, the singalong that the children performed, pantomimes and finally we were lucky enough to get a visit from Father Christmas himself.

One of the first Christmas activities we got to do was have Reverend Tracey come to visit us. She bought some figures with her to represent Jesus, Mary, Joseph, the Three Wise Men and the Shepards to help tell the Christmas story. Many of the children already had knowledge of the nativity but it was lovely for them to hear the story. They asked lots of questions and continued to retell the story in their play. Alongside this we also put some Christmas dress up in the role play area for the children to explore, they have had lots of fun with these and really got into the Christmas spirit.

Another activity we enjoyed was making our Christmas tree decorations to take home. We used our fine motor skills to make either a reindeer, tree, star or snowflake out of clay. Once we’d rolled the clay into a ball and rolled it out we used a piece of pine tree to press into the clay to create a pattern. Once it had dried out we glazed the decorations to really highlight the the tree patterns we’d pressed into the clay. Once they were dry the grown ups took them to the kiln to be fired. Each child was really proud of their creation and they were so excited to go home to show their families.

During our final week we had the singalong, pantomimes, Christmas party and our special visit from Father Christmas. For the singalong we practised the songs at nursery and learned all of the actions. This was quite a challenge for the children but they all did an absolutely brilliant job. We performed once for early years, our twinned class and siblings and again for the childrens families. This helped massively with the children’s confidence and music skills as well. A massive well done to all of the children. Talking of performances we also watched two pantomimes!  One being Aladdin from the travelling panto and the other being ‘Over the rainbow’ which starred some of our very own teachers. This was such a treat for the children and they really enjoyed it. We also had lots of fun at our Christmas party, we sang songs, played party games, danced and had some yummy food!

Finally we were lucky to get a visit from Father Christmas himself, and he even left us a present! This was such a magical experience for every child and we had lots of happy faces.

Merry Christmas everybody and we hope you have a fantastic holiday!
