Monday 9th October was Diwali Day in year 3. Throughout the day, year 3 children took part in a variety of activities to learn more about the festival of Diwali. The children listened to the story of Rama and Sita. They then created characters and objects from the story using plasticine or paper and retold the story in their own puppet shows. They learnt about how Hindus celebrate the five days of Diwali. The children also created their own Rangoli patterns with coloured rice or beads or drew their own, considering the symmetry and colours used in their patterns. Some of the children attended a lantern making workshop to create star shaped lanterns and are excited about joining the forthcoming Diwali parade in Northampton on 4th November with their hand made lanterns.
