Happy New Year

Welcome back year 2 and Happy New to you and your families. We hope you had a lovely time during the Christmas

period. Year 2 teachers and support staff would like to say thank you for the messages, cards and gifts we received. So very generous and appreciated 😊

Our first week back has been a busy one! It's been lovely to see the children happy to get stuck back in to their learning too.

In English we have started a new book "The Bear Under the Stairs" and have been practising our letter writing. The children have been producing some excellent work ✨

In Maths, we are learning about money. Some of the children loved the pop up toy shop and 'buying' toys with the correct change. This really helped them to understand coins and their value.

We are ready for some self portraits in Art and have begun by taking pictures of each other , they had a little play around with editing on iPads too.... they very much enjoyed this !

Looking forward to next weeks adventures in year 2 😊

Helping at Home

Ways to help at home

  • Read every day
  • Practise your spellings and common exception words
  • As you read spot the sounds in words, can you find digraphs (two letters that make one sound) and trigraphs (three letters that make one sound)?
  • Count in 2s, 5s and 10s forwards and backwards
  • Learn your number bonds for all numbers to 20 (e.g number bonds to 7 are 1+6, 2+5, 3+4, etc.)
  • Practise telling the time to the hour, quarter past, half past, quarter to and as an extra challenge to 5 minute intervals (five past, ten past etc.)
  • Practise letter formation using the correct pencil grip and develop fine motor skills (peg pressing, picking pasta shells/rice with tweezers)
