This week, year 6 'travelled back in time' to 1942 to experience life as evacuees in World War II. At Holdenby House Evacuee centre, the children learnt about food rationing and assisted Cook in the kitchen to prepare some wartime food. Due to clothing rationing, the children discovered how clothing was repaired and fabric and wool was reused to make other items that would have been useful at the time. They learnt about the equipment and supplies soldiers were issued and wrote postcards to those who were fighting in the war. Finally, the children learnt about air raid precautions and experienced what it felt like to be in an air raid shelter.
