Dear Parents
World Book Day Assembly
On Wednesday the Reading Ambassadors from across the school ran an inspiring assembly for all the children. They encouraged them to make a story hat over half term ready for World Book Day on Thursday 6th March based on a book called Hamilton’s Hats. We could hear the children around the room bursting with creative ideas and are very excited to see their creations all in a whole school exhibition on World Book Day after school.
Year 5 Space Centre Trip
Year 5 had a fantastic day at the Space Centre in Leicester on Tuesday. They used coding to programme a robot during the Mars Rover workshop and loved the planetarium show. It was a great way to round off their science unit on Earth and space.
Safer Internet Day 2025
As you aware on Tuesday it was Safer Internet Day where the children were updated and learnt how to keep themselves safe online.
This seems like a good time to remind you that if you are considering purchasing mobile phones ready for Year 5 when the children can walk home from school on their own, to consider purchasing a call only phone. Many parents now support a ‘Smart Phone Free Childhood’ as they acknowledge the dangers that children can be exposed to. A member of staff was explaining to me that when you set up a phone you can set it up as a child’s phone so that there are no Apps on it. In Year 5 and Year 6, phones are handed in at the beginning of the day and collected at the end of the day. We discourage smartphones at any time because inappropriate online behaviour at home can spill over into school, and we work with parents and try to keep the children safe through online safety messages. No matter how sensible the child is they can still find themselves in uncomfortable or dangerous situations. If your child does have a smart phone or online device, please make sure you are monitoring them thoroughly and regularly to reduce the risks.
Science Week Beginning 10th March
Mrs Hallet is seeking the support of any parents or people that you know who work in the field of science or has a linked hobby to come into school during our Science Week this year. The children have been captivated and inspired by contributors in the past and we hope to have some return alongside new people. Please contact Mrs Hallett via the school office if you could help by delivering a workshop or talk. Thank you
Have a lovely half term and we will see you back in on Monday 24th February.
