The children in Reception have really enjoyed all of their learning about China and Chinese New Year. They have been busy gaining a wealth of knowledge and experiences linked to Geography, art, music, cooking and more.
In Geography we have looked at China on a globe and on Google maps, learnt about the food, animals, language, weather and culture. We have also learnt about The Great Wall of China!
The children have watched festivals and parades, tried noodles and crackers, dressed up in Chinese clothing and role played cooking Chinese foods. They have also had a go at making lanterns and masks, listened and danced to Chinese music and made their own Chinese New Year parades.
Together, we learnt about the origin of the Chinese New Year celebrations via the story 'The Great Race' which told us about all the animals that are celebrated in the Chinese New Year cycle. The children have also made cards, many of which featured a picture of a tiger in connection with it being the year of the tiger.
To continue to consolidate your child's understanding, please ask them about their learning and share with them your knowledge and experiences.
