Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

This year the class teachers are Mr Lagdon (5 Gaudi & Year Leader), Mrs Douglas & Mrs Ofori-Attah (5 Basquiat) and Miss Hodges (5 Mazari).  Mrs Bayes (HLTA), Miss Price and Miss Ruff will also support learning across the year group.  During the course of Year 5 we will continue to build on the children's independence and resilience skills and also move their learning forward by using our growth mindsets.

You will find our curriculum information further down the page!

STEM Morning

On Tuesday the 30th of November, the Year 5 pupils had a very exciting morning when students from Northampton University came in to deliver D.T focused projects across the school. The children were involved in unfolding boxes to identify the various nets that could be used to create a durable design. From this, they used a net to create their own seasonal box.

Helping at Home

In Year 5, the children are set weekly spellings on a Thursday which are tested on the following Friday. They are also set an additional piece of homework with either a Maths, English, Science, History or Geography link. It is expected that the children use Times Tables Rockstars a couple of times a week; they have their own password to access this activity.

In addition to this, please continue to support your child with their reading by regularly reading to them, listening to them read and asking them questions about their reading. This should also be logged on Boom Reader.

Although many children read fluently and independently at this age, in order to build higher level comprehension skills, it is important that they are given the opportunity to discuss what they have read and share their opinions about texts. Everyone will also get the chance to visit the school library each week, so they have a reading for pleasure book to go alongside their coloured book band.

PE is each Tuesday and Thursday afternoon so please make sure your children come to school in the appropriate kit on these days. During the colder months, the children may need additional clothing for the weather.
