Over the last few weeks, year 3 have enjoyed their class trips to the Everdon Outdoor learning centre. During their time in Everdon, the children expanded and consolidated their geography learning about rivers. They worked in teams to measure how fast Snorscombe Stream was flowing and learnt why it is important to take multiple measurements. They completed field sketches of a meander, labelling the different parts of the meander and the flow speed of the water at the inside and outside bends of the river , considering where erosion and deposition occurs. The children had a wonderful time stream dipping, amazed at the variety of the invertebrates they found, which they then identified using identification sheets. The creatures they found included freshwater shrimp, caddisfly larvae, bullheads, damselfly larvae and water beetle.
