Magnets
This week as scientists we have been learning about magnets.
A magnet is a metal which attracts or repels other materials. A magnet is made from magnetic materials such as iron, nickel, steel or cobalt. Magnets have two poles, north and south. Magnets have an invisible magnetic field that allows them to attract or repel certain materials.
A magnetic field is concentrated at the ends of magnets. These ends are called poles Magnets have two poles: a north pole and a south pole.
When two magnets are held together so that two south poles are close together, they repel. The same happens when two north poles are close together. When a south pole and north pole are held together the magnets attract.
