Getting Creative

This week has been lovely to be back in full time and see the children again. We have had lots of fun getting back in to the routines, playing and being busy with lots of activities. We have worked a lot on being ‘Have a go hero’s’ and ‘keep it up captains’ and the children have loved showing us how well they can achieve these, from doing up their coats to persisting with learning challenges when they have occurred.

The children have loved exploring patterns and are becoming really confident at both recognising them and continuing repeated patterns. We’ve found patterns everywhere and we have had great fun looking at our clothing to see what patterns we are wearing.

We have had so much fun getting creative and have spent a lot of time in the atelier room this week. Exploring our class artist Eric Carle, we have been learning how he uses collaging to create his beautiful illustrations and art pieces. The children watched a tutorial by Eric Carle himself and then worked to recreate his style for our own art pieces.  They have created some fantastic firefly’s to support our story of the week ‘very lonely firefly’.

To help celebrate Diwali the children have found out information about the Diwali celebration and watched a puppet show on the story of Rama and Sita. They then used clay and learnt techniques for how to mould and sculpt diva lamps, before painting them and putting candles inside.

The children have also enjoyed being very musical this week.  Miss Anglin has been playing the guitar to the children and singing a ‘firely song’ for them, while the children have been learning how to use a key board.  They have loved learning about the high and low noises and have listened to Mrs Abraham play tunes for them.
