Dear Parents

SATs week

The Year 6 children have shown an amazing attitude to their tests this week. I was very impressed with the speed that they solve their maths problems and how they are meticulous in their working out and checking answers for accuracy. I can definitely say they have all done their best.

Thank you to the ‘Friends’ who treated the children to an ice cream from Pino’s van. Pino’s children are ex pupils, and we learn that the oldest is now 21!

Gold Sports Mark

Thank you to Miss Holmes and Miss Lee, our Sports Leaders who are delighted to share with you that the school has been awarded the Gold Sports Mark again.  It confirms that we offer a wide range of sports and competitions, engaging children across the school.

Relationships and PSHE Curriculum

Thank you to Mrs Wise who organised the Parent Drop-In for the RSE and PSHE curriculum on Wednesday afternoon after school. There was a good turn out and it was an excellent opportunity to answer any questions with all the class teachers and look at resources.

It was very good timing and coincided with the media coverage that said there will be no sex education until the children are 9 years old. We were able to share that we have a consistent approach using the Jigsaw curriculum where lower down the school we look at relationships and protective behaviours such as the NSPCC ‘pants are private’ approach to Year 5 where we start to introduce reproduction.

Swale

It’s been lovely to see groups of children outside (even in the drizzle). The Reception classes seem to have built a den in the trees around the pond! I wonder what minibeasts they have found?

Mrs Atlas has organised for our gardeners to give the area a bit of a tidy up and dredge the pond so that we can find some more interesting specimens when we’re pond dipping.

Carnival Workshop

Paul from Festival Road was back in school on Monday and will be back next Monday working with the children to produce fantastic big artwork for our ‘Carnival’ float this year.  You will find us travelling around the town in procession on Saturday 8th June, so we hope you can come and give us a wave. We will be raising money for the Northampton General to build a children’s playground.

Reminders – Driving, Scooters, Running in the Car Park, Sugary Snacks

Yesterday we had a child who was nearly hit by a car that mounted the pavement and then proceeded to drive along it. Thank you to those who spoke to the person concerned. If you see a serious situation, on the local roads please contact the police who will follow up.

Please can parents remind their children that they should not be riding their scooters within the school grounds including the turning circle on entering and leaving school.

Please stick to the footpaths around the school at drop off and pick up times and keep an eye on the children so that they don’t run through the car park where staff may be moving their vehicles.

Mr Lagdon has noticed a sharp rise in children bringing in highly processed snacks. With the current national emphasis on healthy eating for optimum energy levels and good health can we remind you that children should bring fruit or vegetables for snacks – no sweets or chocolate. Thank you.

Girls Football

Well done to the Year 5 girls who have gone to Parklands Community Centre this afternoon to take part in a Football Takeover Festival.  They all returned looking very happy and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, which has inspired them to take up football.

Have a great weekend

Alison Harvey
