DT

In DT this term, the year 4 children are enjoying using Lego Spike to create and program amusement park rides. This week the children accurately followed the building instructions to create teacup rides. After creating the original prototypes, the children experimented and upgraded their models. They also used their programming skills to change the coding to improve the teacup ride.

Coronation Artwork

This week, the year 4 children's coronation artwork was exhibited in the school hall as part of the Bridgewater Primary King Charles III art exhibition.

4 Wiltshire created an enlarged version of a postage stamp as a whole class. Each member of the class created one part of the overall piece of art, filling it with sketches that related to the coronation, the royal family, London and the UK, all in the style of Stephen Wiltshire. They used pens and graded drawing pencils to draw the sketches to achieve the shading effect on the stamp image. Having each focussed on a small part, the children were amazed to see it come together as one piece of art and the overall effect of their combined work.

4 Milhazes challenged themselves to sketch detailed, individual front facing portraits of King Charles. They then used inspiration from Beatriz Milhazes' colourful, abstract paintings with geometric shapes, to create vibrant backgrounds for their portraits.

4 Fraser were inspired by their class artist to use contrasting colours to create their King Charles portraits. The children were excited when, following a post of their work by the school on Twitter, Henry Fraser himself complimented them on on their artwork.

Frontier

Year 4 have had a wonderful time at the Rock UK Frontier Centre this week. The children have enjoyed taking part in a variety of activities. In bushcraft, the children learned how to safely make fires and build shelters. They have challenged themselves on the climbing walls, worked together as a team paddling canoes and developed their archery skills. In team dynamics, they completed a series of challenges, considering the best ways to approach the challenges and working together to complete them. In the evening, the children enjoyed a bonfire, which included toasting and eating marshmallows, and dancing with their friends at the disco.
