In Geography, we have been learning all about earthquakes and plate tectonics. The Earth is made up of different layers as shown in the picture below:
The Earth’s crust is made up of tectonic plates. This map shows where the tectonic plates are (the red lines).
Some plates are moving close together and may form mountains. Some plates grind over or past each other and these are most likely to cause earthquakes. The two plates coming close together causes shock waves to shake the surface of the Earth in the form of an earthquake.
