Fantastic Felting!

Year 3 had the opportunity to take part in a wonderful felt making workshop, which was run by Mrs Jefferson, the Crafty Tutor! The children made little bags ready to take on their trip to Irchester country park, where they will be explorers for the day.

On the first day of the workshop, the children had to make felt using fluffy, colourful wool that had been through the ‘carding’ process, which is just like brushing or combing hair. They then had to use all their strength to carry out the ‘felting’ process! (Watch this video to see how it’s done -

).

After rubbing it with soap and then washing it, we let the felt dry. In the meantime we practised our sewing skills: the running stitch and over-stitch. We also designed our bags and thought carefully about colours, patterns, the type of flap and type of handle.

On day two, it was time to make the bags using the felt. We applied our sewing skills to put together the bags and attach handles. The children didn’t give up, even when it got tricky! Well done Year 3.
