Take One Picture

Over the last few weeks, we have been studying a piece of art called Men of the Docks by George Bellows.

To begin with, we discussed what we could see, what we thought was happening and what questions we had about the painting.  We then focused on the skyline in the background, having a go at drawing our own skylines of buildings.  Next, the children wanted to link their work to our theme on The Great Fire of London.  Therefore, they used oil pastels or water colours to create fire backgrounds.  Finally, they drew a London skyline from 1666 onto black card, added lights at windows, cut it out and stuck it on top of their fire backgrounds.

The children all worked really hard and improved their skills with oil pastels, water colours and cutting.
