In Year 6, we have three classes: 6 Warhol, 6 Banksy and 6 Vasarely. In 6 Warhol, the class teacher is Miss Brown with the support of Mrs Dalby. In 6 Banksy, the class teachers are Mrs Boyling and Mrs Watt with the support of Mrs Hillery. In 6 Vasarely, the class teachers are Mrs Hallett and Mrs Spatcher, with the support of Miss Scott. In addition to this, we are fortunate to have Mrs Archer (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) who works across all the three classes and run intervention groups where necessary.
In Year 6, we strive to meet the end of Key Stage 2 expectations and prepare the children for their SATs in a supportive environment. We try to instil independence in the children, as well as develop their resilience and the skills they will need to prepare them for Secondary School and beyond.

Today Year 6 enjoyed learning about Charles Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection. We learnt about finches in the Galapagos Islands and how they adapted to fit their envrionment and food sources. We then carried out our own investigations, observing which 'beaks' would work best for different food types. We carried out a fair test using different stationery as bird beaks and tested to see which 'foods' they would pick up best and which birds we thought would be most successful.
We then compared our results as a class and had to work out the mean average for each beak type before putting our results into a graph. Next lesson we will be using our results to pull out findings and make conclusions on which birds we thought would be most successful at survival in different environments and why.

Helping at Home
In Year 6, the children are set weekly spellings on a Monday which are tested on a Friday; on Thursday we also set an additional piece of home learning which is due in the following Tuesday. The children have been issued with a Homework Diary to help them manage their time effectively in preparation for secondary school. These need to be signed by a parent/carer each week and handed in every Wednesday to be signed by their class teacher. In addition to this, please continue to support your child with their reading by regularly reading to them, listening to them read and asking them questions about their reading. We encourage them to record this in the homework diary too.
Our Year 6 PE lesson is on a Wednesday afternoon so please ensure your child has their PE kit in school on this day.
