Pasta making.
On the first day back to school our school chef, Jason gave us a 'Hands on' pasta making experience!
First he told us about some of the different kinds of pasta. We were amazed to know there are hundreds! We were also very surprised to find out that pasta originates from China and that Italy later adopted it as the nation's favourite. Some of us were able to name some of the different kinds of pasta, and by chance it was lasagne on the school lunch menu that day, hooray!
Jason showed us how to make fresh pasta, using eggs, a special fine flour, oil and salt. He used a mixer and it only took a few seconds to make the mixture. After dividing the mixture into parts he invited some helpful volunteers to come and help him use the special pasta machine. They took turns to wind the handle, which rolled the dough into thin sheets, and then into thinner strips. Although the handle was quite stiff, it was quick and easy. Jason said it's even possible to make the pasta by rolling it with a rolling pin and then slicing it, although the machine is much more fun!
Jason taught us how easy it is to be healthy and make fresh pasta with no additives or preservatives. We appreciate him giving us his time for a lovely informative demonstration, and thank him for all the delicious lunches his team makes for us.
