Dear Parents

Lunchtime Supervisor Training

Our Bridgewater Lunchtime Supervisors all took part in a full days training on Wednesday and were highly praised by the trainer.  We have a great team who have been extremely patient and innovative during lockdown and always look to maximise lunchtimes for the children under the experienced leadership of Carina Novakovic.

Food Wastage

We can at times be wasteful with food and left overs and Bridgewater is no exception.  We are going to take on an idea we learnt in Sweden where the children are concerned about how much food waste there is each day and aim to reduce it over time.  We will weigh the food leftover bins, (with supervision from the Lunchtime Supervisors) and try to reduce the amount over time.  This will encourage the children to eat all of their meal, select their food carefully and reduce wastage of food overall. Watch this space!

High Five Netball Tournament

Y5 were very excited when they got back from their High Fives Netball Tournament wearing silver medals.  They were excellent sports and team players and thank you to Emma from Pacesetters for giving them some training to get them to second place in the tournament.

Behaviour in the Pocket Park After School

A few Year 6 children have been unkind to each other in the Pocket Park after school.  We can discuss the behaviour with the children and parents, however it is after school and families need to work with us on this.  Could parents of the children talk to them and remind them to go straight home or make better choices in the park.  Thank you.

Parent Views

Governors will be discussing how to gather parent views and support communication at their next meeting.  If you have any ideas could you share them with the school office, myself, Mrs Troop or Mrs Redden as we are also all governors and we can pass them on to Joanna Dunkley, our Chair.  You could also email ideas to

Wildflowers in our Local Area

Graham Tennant, from the Local Resident’s Association sent a lovely email about our 21 children and staff who attended the wildflower seed planting ceremony recently in our local park. He wrote as follows:

“They were a joy to have, all very smart and polite and they asked so many positive questions that even tested the knowledge of Nicola from IdVerde!”   Thank you Graham, it was an excellent idea and experience for the children and we will look out for the wildflowers as they start to grow.

Hot off the Press - Environmental News!

Dollie and Betsy just came to find me and Mrs Hollingsworth (Eco Leader) to show us their Green (environmental) Blue Peter Badges! They are not given away lightly as we know and the girls worked hard to make a Power, Plastic and Plants Pledge.  Well done to all our inspirational environmentalists. There may be more around the school who haven’t shared their news with us yet. Well done to the Brownies for encouraging them.

Have a lovely weekend

Alison Harvey
