Dear Parents

Science Week

We have had a very exciting science week.  Mrs Hallett started off the week with a virtual assembly where she introduced the theme and carried out her own investigations to get us thinking about what scientists do and how they think.  Our theme this year is ‘Rocket Mice’ and each class has been busy exploring how they can make their mouse travel the furthest.  It has been wonderful to see the children developing their 'working scientifically' skills in predicting, observing and recording data, and seeing the progression of these skills across the school. We will be collecting samples of work from each year group and showcasing them on our display board in the new STEM room.

The lunchtime workshops, which have been run by the science ambassadors, have proved very popular.  It was lovely to see the Year 6 children engage with the younger ones in fun science experiments which resulted in awe and wonder. Please visit our Class Blogs and Twitter for more details about what we have been up to this week.

It is still not too late to enter the ‘Science Selfie’ photo competition with the closing date being on Friday 25th March; we can't wait to see what science activities the children have been involved in at home.

World Book Day Competition Winners

Well done Alexander in Reception, Zac in Year 4 and Abigail in Year 6, our worthy competition winners and prolific readers. We have a special mention for 3 Hockney for clocking up an amazing 278 stories in one week as a class!

Our aim is for every child to enjoy their reading whether it be fiction, non-fiction, magazines, poetry, a recipe etc. etc. The more vocabulary they come across the more their learning will expand and it will empower them to communicate with the world. I’ve seen some fabulous writing this week which we will celebrate in assembly next week ranging from poetry, fiction and some very persuasive writing.

Friends of Bridgewater

Our Friends of Bridgewater are re-energised after lockdown and preparations for the Summer Fair are in full swing.  They need as many volunteers as possible to help with the preparations and on the big day itself.  It is lovely to be part of this enthusiastic group so please step forward if you have some extra time and can offer your support or you may have some hidden talents that you could share?

PLEASE COME ALONG TO THE AGM @ BRIDGEWATER AT 6pm ON 23 Mar 2022 to find out more.

Thai Lunch

Don’t forget your Thai themed lunch on Monday.

Red Nose Day

Thank you to all of you for your generous donations today for this very worthy cause.

Next week is the School Council Sponsored Obstacle Race. They have put plans together to gather funds towards a building new covered shelter for the Ignite playground.  This will be great for shelter from all weathers and a quiet space to play games and read.

And Finally

At such a difficult time in the world we will continue to support and nurture the children to cope with difficult news, responding to their questions supportively in group times such as circle time as well as individually.  We sign post the children to nurture across the school both within their classes and year groups as well as to specific specialists throughout the school if they have big worries.  It is a joy to see them relaxed and carefree in the sunshine, playing with friends at lunch times and break times.

Take care

Alison Harvey
