Dear Parents

Science Week

It has been exciting to walk around school this week, observing all our young scientists deep in thought and conversation around pattern seeking. You will find lots of updates on Twitter and our blogs.

Thank You to Our Visitors

We have been inspired by our visitors who have shared their time, enthusiasm and expertise this week and we would like to thank; Dr Green, a local GP, who taught Year 6 about the heart and circulation, Hayley, an entomologist from the RHS taught Year 5 about plant diseases, wildlife and climate and Jennie and her husband who are scientists from the Catalyst Museum who taught Year 4 about renewable energy. Annie taught Early Years and Year 2 about germs and how they can spread, whilst Rob taught Year 3 about meteorology and today Linda will be teaching Year 1 about engineering. Thank you to Mrs Hallett who has coordinated all these inspirational people and we really appreciate them giving up their time for us.

Reading

Can we all remember to switch off our devices and distractions this weekend and relax and enjoy a book on our own or with a family member or friend? Little and often is better than not at all. I will do the same ?

Mother’s Day Stall

Thank you to the Friends for organising the plant stall for Mother’s Day and special people in the children’s lives. One child told me he was very impressed that the plant pots are biodegradable and good for the environment. I’m sure the recipients will be delighted. Have a lovely day everyone.

Red Nose Day

It was great to see everyone in red today in aid of Comic Relief. You can donate on ParentMail or donate larger amounts at the office. We will share the grand total with you next week. Bridgewater always give tremendous support to these events. You can make a difference to someone’s life – Thank you.

Gymnastics

A team from Year 1 and Year 2 took part in a big gymnastics competition today here at Bridgewater with eight schools. They achieved second place with Ella receiving a certificate for her excellent floor work. Thank you to Emma from Pacesetters for training our team and Charlie for supporting them on the big day. All that practice has paid off.

Year 4 Trip to Abington Park Museum

The Year 4 classes have each walked to Abington Park Museum this week, where we have always been warmly welcomed. They learnt about the Ancient Egyptians by re-enacting the opening ceremony of the mouths which would have restored a person’s ability to see and speak and they learnt to write hieroglyphics. Our visits bring history alive, and we are very grateful to the museum staff.

Councillor Andrew Kilbride

The school council met with Councillor Andrew Kilbride this morning. He shared what it was like to be a councillor and they learnt about the democratic process which is part of our British Values. He informed them about the planned changes to the cycle paths around Abington and they had the opportunity to ask him some challenging and insightful questions which he responded to sharing his knowledge.

Have a great weekend

Mrs Alison Harvey
