Dear Parents

It has been lovely to have all our Reception children in together this week.  They have settled really well and are already reading and writing alongside exploring a range of fun activities.

Friends Coffee Morning

We started the week with the Friends coffee morning for our new intake parents.  It was a great turnout and a relaxed way to get to know each other and enjoy the treats provided by Leena, the Chair of the Friends, and the team of volunteers. Please contact the Friends via Facebook, the school website link or the school office if you would like to join them in their fundraising activities for our children. Everyone is very welcome; the more varied skills you have to offer the better. The next online meeting is on Wednesday 20th October at 8pm.

The Friends had their AGM this week and have agreed with the school to fund some exciting items to enhance the children’s experiences at Bridgewater – watch this space.

Roman Visitor

We had a Roman visitor on Wednesday who inspired and engaged Y3 in their history studies. He brought a huge variety of artefacts for them to explore, which should stay in their memories for time to come.

Online Safety

Sean McGrath, and his company ‘Alter Ego’ provided a top quality drama production called ‘In The Net’, which challenged our children to think deeply about internet safety.  Mrs Douglas said the Y4 children were horrified when the actor said it was ok to wear your school uniform whilst speaking to someone online! They are becoming well trained and we need to continue to work together to support them to make good choices online.  If you ever have any concerns please contact Mrs Redden our Online Safety Leader.

Parent One Way System

A gentle reminder that we have a one way system in place and would ask that you follow this at the beginning and the end of the day.

Parking

Again, a reminder that only Blue Badge Holders are allowed to access the car park in order to collect their children.

Sweets for Birthdays

Due to allergies and religious observances we have a protocol of not bringing sweets into school to celebrate birthdays. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

Spanish Week

An exciting message from Mrs Hsu, our specialist teacher of Spanish, and Miss Sheikh who is coordinating the International Schools Award:

Next week is our Spanish Week to coincide with the European Day of Languages on Sunday 26th September. The children will have opportunities to explore some cultural traditions including art, dance, music, food and festivals. Our lunch on Wednesday is also Spanish-themed and we will be running some Spanish games outside. It would be lovely if the children could bring in and show photographs or Spanish items if they have any at home. ¡Muchas gracias!

Have a great weekend

Alison Harvey
