Dear Parents

Northampton Carnival 2021

Yesterday afternoon the children formed a carnival procession around the school grounds. Nobody could have anticipated what a joyous event it would be. The 660 children and staff danced and paraded around the grounds in brightly coloured head dresses that they had made; banging instruments and moving together in unison to carnival music on the sound system.

April and Ashley were visiting school from the Northampton carnival committee on behalf of Morcea Walker to add photos of our event to all the community events happening around town.

It felt like a turning point as it was the first time we had all been together as a whole school after lockdown. I wish you could all have been there but you should be able to see the event on the Northampton Carnival website and Facebook page in all its glory. Thank you so much to Mrs Watson for organising our fabulous contribution to the Virtual Northampton Town Carnival 2021.

Osmington Bay

The deposit is due for Osmington Bay next year on the 15June for the Y5s going in to Y6.

This year’s trip was wonderful the children were an absolute pleasure to take away. Their behaviour and attitude was excellent; they were such good fun and so supportive to each other. Thank you to the Bridgewater and PGL staff who all worked hard to make it such a lovely trip and well done to Miss Brown who coordinated and organised the whole event.

Well done to the Y6 children who were in school who threw themselves into lots of creative activities and were also impeccably behaved, good fun and showed a fantastic attitude.

Everdon

Y3 have had a great time at Everdon this week. They studied the river flow, a meander formation and did some pond dipping. They were a credit to the school and loved their learning. 3 Thomas are looking forward to their trip next week.

Morris Dancing

Y3 have been Morris Dancing this morning with a lovely lady called Rebecca who had them all following instructions precisely and dancing energetically.

Phonics checks

Y1 and 2 have been checking the children’s phonics this week and we can see that our investment in ‘Sounds Write’ (which some of you were supporting during lockdown) has impacted positively on the phonics, reading and writing across the school. The children are achieving very well and producing some great work.

Friends of Bridgewater Primary School

Thank you to the Friends of Bridgewater who kept the momentum going so well throughout lockdown and continued to work hard for school by finding alternative ways in which to raise funds, for example the online Uniform Sale worked particularly well. They hope to get some of the traditional events going again as soon as lockdown rules allow in the Autumn term and, as always, are keen to welcome new members.

Parking

Could the driver of the black Nissan Qashqai that parks across the dropdown kerb on Milverton Crescent, please park somewhere else in the future to allow pedestrians to cross the road safely?

Sun safety

With the weather warming up, please make sure that children have sun cream applied and a named hat and water bottle with them, daily, for the rest of the term.

Have a lovely weekend

Alison Harvey
