Dear Parents

Year 6

Y6 completed their tests calmly and were focused on achieving the best that they could.  The staff were all impressed at the way they applied themselves, recalling their learning to resolve problems and answer questions methodically.  They all enjoyed their ice-cream treat from Pino afterwards on Wednesday thanks to the Friends of Bridgewater.  Now they are auditioning for High School Musical … good luck everyone.  Its fantastic opportunity to be part of a big production where there is a vital role for everyone.

Tennis

Thank you Mr Tulley and Mrs Kowcun who took the tennis team to their first tournament this week.  Well done to Alex, Maddie, Nathaniel and Libby who played brilliantly and won the tournament out of six schools! Fantastic.

Chinese Dragon Workshop

Y1 had a wonderful time in their Chinese Dragon Workshop and created group dances using props such as umbrellas, fans and a beautiful Chinese dragon of course.  The finished class dances showed great coordination, balance and flow of movement.  Thank you to the workshop who immersed us in a little bit of Chinese culture for the day.

Science Week

We have had a very exciting science week and you can feel the buzz across the school.  Mrs Hallett started off the week with a virtual assembly where she introduced the theme and carried out her own investigation to get us thinking about what scientists do and how they think.  Our theme this year is the great ‘Dunking Biscuit debate’ and each class has been busy exploring which biscuit is the best for dunking! It has been wonderful to see the children developing their working scientifically skills in predicting, observing and recording data and samples of work from the week will be displayed in our collaborative display in our new STEM room.  The rain has not put us off as we have also been exploring our amazing outdoor areas with a range of activities including observing and sorting leaves, worm surveys and building bug hotels.  Please visit our class blogs for more detail and to see what we have been up to. It is still not too late to enter the ‘Zoomed in’ photo competition with the closing date being on Tuesday 25 May.

The Eco Team Saving Energy

This afternoon the Eco Team encouraged everyone to switch off their lights to save energy – let’s hope that the children continue to remember to do this at home this weekend.

I’m off to Osmington Bay with Y6 on Monday so please contact Mrs Troop if you need to speak to someone.

Have a lovely weekend

Alison Harvey
