Dear Parents

Poetry Competition

Congratulations to Maggie in Year 4 who came runner up in a prestigious national poetry competition with her beautiful poem below.

Amanda Lowther, Deputy Lieutenant, writes to Mrs Coleman our Oracy Leader:

I was absolutely delighted to learn that Maggie’s poem from your school has been chosen as a runner up in this year’s Poetry competition.  That is an enormous achievement for Maggie and a real feather in the school’s cap.  I greatly enjoyed coming to meet you all at St Christopher’s Care Home and was very impressed by the standard of the poems the children recited.  I was also very struck by how all your children seemed to enjoy meeting some of the residents of the care home.  Both old and young appeared to enjoy the afternoon.

My friends that have blossomed

My friendship with my friends has grown like blossom on the trees

Friendship starts as little buds, small yet strong and full of warmth

The bud needs sun and water just like friends need love and care

As you share trust and love the bud bursts into a flower

Be gentle those delicate petals can tear like paper

Treat them kindly and they will stay together

Friendship grows and the blossom petals show lots of colours

In just a season and before you know it you will have a lifelong friend

Forever!

Chewing Gum

Could you make sure that the children aren’t bringing chewing gum into school please.  A child has ruined his t-shirt by getting gum stuck to it at playtime. Thank you

Rail Safety

The children have watched assemblies about the dangers of going near railways this week. Could we ask you reinforce the messages at home.

Year 3 & 4 Gymnasts

Well done to our Year 3 and Year 4 gymnasts who won the Pacesetter’s interschool competition this morning. Sofia, Orla, Alfie and Isla performed skilfully and particularly enjoyed and excelled in the vault, beam and floorwork.

Car Accident

There was an accident between two cars this morning in the drop off zone. Fortunately, no one was hurt.  This would not have happened if people had adhered to the rules and observed the signage. Please park safely and respectfully on the local roads, including Abington Park Crescent which incorporates a short healthy walk into school.

Year 1 Trip to Abington Park Museum

Year 1 were welcomed to the Abington Park Museum for a ‘Victorian Treasure Trail’ and learnt about local history and played with some toys from the past.

Have a lovely weekend

Alison Harvey
