Dear Parents

Science Week

We have had a very exciting Science Week.  Mrs Hallett started off the week with a whole school assembly where she introduced the theme of ‘Adapt and Change’. She demonstrated how the Earth has evolved and she even made ice cream by the time it finished! We have been very lucky to have some wonderful workshops and talks and would like to extend our thanks to the volunteers who delivered these. We have had talks on pressure sensors, making batteries out of lemons, civil engineering, Red Bull Racing and Jaguar Land Rover. It has been invaluable for the children to be exposed to different scientists and how science fits into our everyday lives. The lunchtime workshops, which have been run by the science ambassadors, have proved very popular.  It was lovely to see the older children engage the younger children in fun science experiments which created awe and wonder. It is still not too late to enter the ‘Do science with me!’ challenge with the closing date being on Friday 28th March; we can't wait to see the creative ideas the children have come up with. Please visit our class blogs and social media platforms for more detail about what we have been up to this week.

Thank you to Ben and Andy from Jaguar Land Rover who visited Year 6 today and shared their routes into their careers as design engineers. The children in one group designed the exterior, another group made the vehicle, and a third group designed the track to test it on, which opened their eyes to the world of science and engineering and the possibilities of having a career in STEM.

Year 1 and 2 Gymnastics Competition

Well done to Callia, Eddi May, Rosa & Niamh in Year 1 and Year 2 who were very excited about coming first in the gymnastics competition! They have won a big silver trophy after completing vaults, the beam and floor work with elegance and skill.

Bridgewater Successes

Katrina, our piano teacher, called me to watch Maya in Year 5 perform Interstellar by Hans Zimmer on the keyboard. Maya has a delicate touch and beautiful timing. It was spellbinding and the children will get a chance to watch her play on Monday.

I was also blown away by Lola this week, our young actress in Year 5 currently performing as the young Anna Mae in Tina the musical in the West End.  Her stage presence and maturity are remarkable, and she is a joy to watch.

Well done to all our children who put in so much hard work and effort to develop their passions and interests.  Please encourage them to share in school and we can celebrate their efforts and inspire others.

Parking

Thank you to the vast majority of families who park at a distance from school and walk in showing respect to our local residents. There are a small handful who need to be reminded not to park on kerbs or on corners which reduces visibility for pedestrians and please don’t park across the driveways of local residents. Thank you for your cooperation.

Have a lovely weekend

Alison Harvey
