Dear Parents
Swiped
There was an interesting programme on Channel 4 this week called, ‘Swiped’, presented by Emma and Matt Willis, researching the effects of smart phone/device use on our children’s brains. I know how difficult it can be to parent these days with the advent of smart phones which can become addictive in nature. It is well worth a watch and may shape your approach to the use of smart devices now or in the future for the children and it might make you think about your own use. It may make you think again about what the children receive for Christmas!
Twinkly Nativity
This week started with the wonderful, Reception ‘Twinkly Nativity’. They sang some lovely songs, and it was great to see them all signing using Makaton. The whole team led by Mrs Wise did a great job to get all 90 children to perform so well where every child twinkled.
Year 3 Church Carols
There is always a wonderful atmosphere in the beautiful church of St Peter’s and St Paul’s in Abington Park when Year 3 have their annual carol service. Thank you to Reverend Jun and Reverend Tracy for once more making us so welcome. The children shone and sounded stunning thanks to Mrs Douglas, the Year 3 team and of course the children.
Year 2 The Inn-spectors
Year 2 made us laugh with their interpretation of the Inn-spector nativity play with some very officious Inn-spectors! The children’s characters and personalities shone through and they obviously all enjoyed the acting and singing. Lots of children and adults just couldn’t keep still to the music. Thank you, Miss Lee, the Year 2 team and marvellous children.
Christmas Jumper Day
The amount of fantastic gifts brought in to school for vulnerable families, children and young adults was astounding and will put a big smile on lots of faces. I know that our local Mother Christmas (aka Jeanette Walsh) will be grateful for your generosity and there will be lots of happy families. Well done and thank you. The jumpers and outfits were lovely and I still need to find out who the child was in the top building with an amazing sparkly Christmas Tree hat!
Local Residents
Mrs Atlas and Mrs Breakwell were warmly welcomed and had a great time at the local residents Christmas meeting and won a prize in the raffle!!
Thank you to the local residents for your Christmas card of Abington Park and we look forward to continuing working with you in 2025.
PS Thank you to those local residents who come in to school and hear reading, it is very much appreciated and makes a big difference to the children. We can never have too many people, so if you have a free hour and want to get to meet the children you might want to pop along and have a chat with the office in the New Year.
Can we remind you to park cars carefully in the local area and not to park on corners where there are double yellow lines which reduces visibility and is dangerous.
Can we also ensure that children don’t ride on scooters within the grounds (including drop off zone) as someone has been hurt recently by careless scootering!
Have a lovely weekend
