Phonics Week
Well done to all the children and teachers in Year 1 – they have all worked hard this year, using the Sounds Write scheme which prepares the children well. The children were calm and relaxed - it was like the usual fun quiz with their teachers, even under the watchful eye of the LA who pop into schools randomly to check the process. We know what we do is working because the children are rapidly improving their reading and writing.
Carnival
It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Carnival last Saturday. The children had amazing stamina, cheering and shouting the whole way. A big thank you to Dan, our driver who dashed back from France just in time for Mrs Copeman and the team to decorate the float and he then guided us safely around the streets. A wonderful day.
Last week I mentioned that Year 6 are reading The Windrush Child and we are very excited because Morcea Walker who runs the whole Carnival event is coming to talk to them next week about her experiences.
I nearly forgot to say, Bridgewater won first place for the decoration on the float.
NSPCC Assembly
All children from Year 1 to Year 6 have had an NSPCC assembly with the theme ‘Speak Out Stay Safe’. Year 2, Year 5 and Year 6 have all participated in workshops with NSPCC volunteers. All the children came home with their sticker this week.
We hope the children share what they’ve learnt but also remember who they can talk to when there is a need.
Languages Day
We are looking forward to ‘Spanish Language Day’ next Tuesday organised by Mrs D’Agostino with activities for every class.
Year 5 Netball Development Competition
On Monday a team of Year 5 children had a go at playing all the different positions and made a big improvement throughout the afternoon.
Year 1 and 2 Diamond Cricket Competition
Congratulations to our team of cricketers who triumphed at the cricket competition at the Benham this morning. They showed teamwork and sportsmanship and won the tournament. The children were very happy returning to school with their medals. Well done!
New Intake Evening – Thursday 20th June
I can’t believe New Intake Evening has come around so quickly. This is when we welcome the families of the September 2024 starters at 6pm. We are looking forward to meeting you all soon.
