Dear Parents

Mental Health Week

Mrs Wise, our Senior Mental Health Lead, has lots of activities prepared for next week which will support the children to reflect and think about mental health and wellbeing.

Protected Characteristics

As part of this we continue to teach the children about the protected characteristics and to have respect for others.  We will continue to work with the children to ensure that their viewpoints reflect the school and family views and values and remind the children to be respectful to all faiths and cultures.

Discrimination

We would encourage all families to continue to monitor online usage which is important as children are more frequently coming across inappropriate material which could shape their views or expose them to language that they do not understand. We will not tolerate discrimination in school whatever the source.

Safer Internet Day

Mrs Redden has organised for us to participate in Safer Internet Day next Tuesday 6th February. Rushden Academy are coming into school during the week to perform an online safety drama based on critical thinking and digital resilience for KS2. KS1 will have a range of activities where they will be learning that it is important that everyone feels safe online.

Mrs Biddle

The daughter of Mrs Biddle who is also a past pupil came back this week with her father and it was a pleasure to show them around.  There were so many links to Mrs Biddle around the site as Sue was the inspiration underpinning our outdoor learning and Forest Schools and her daughter is completing a Fashion Design project at university in memory of Sue. There is the pond, the insect benches, the forest school area and of course the beautiful cut out sycamore leaf from Abington Park by Aasen Stevenson in the Reception area.  Most importantly, we instil the values, beliefs and good manners that Sue adhered to vehemently and we often say, “That was very Biddle,” when someone is very kind or thoughtful.  It is rewarding to see our past students doing so well and we love hearing about their interests and what they are doing now.

National Story Telling Week

The children have been twinning classes this week and retelling stories confidently to their partner class.  It was lovely to see Mr Lagdon’s class telling stories to Mrs Hollingsworth’s class with confidence and expression, showcasing their developing oracy skills.

Inclusion Coffee Morning

On Monday 5th February there is an Inclusion Coffee Morning from 9.00am – 10.00am where you will be able to meet Miss Ottaway who is stepping into the Parent Link Worker role.  She has recently been working alongside the Inclusion Team and is looking forward to attending the coffee morning on Monday.

NSPCC Numbers Day

A Message from Miss Knight:

Thank you for your wonderful efforts in dressing up for digits! There was a great atmosphere as I wondered around the school today. I was amazed by some of the creative outfits the children (and parents!) have made.

We have explored the story '365 penguins' across the school and each class has taken part in activities based on the story. We've had 'how many penguins fit on the iceberg?' in Early Years, children sorting the penguins into arrays in Year 2 and a fantastic exploration of triangular and square numbers in Year 6.

Remember the children can have a maximum of 60 minutes on the NSPCC rocks TTRS competition (KS2 only) so your child might like to carry on this evening if they did not finish in school.

Thank you for all your efforts!

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Alison Harvey
