Dear Parents,

We have had a lovely end to the term and we are so proud of the children who have shown great resilience and positive attitudes to their learning and friendships.

Nursery performed a lovely little Christmas sing along for their parents and enjoyed their party celebrations with treats and games.  Reception’s Nativity was a joy and they all looked great in their costumes and they sounded beautiful.  Y1 took part in their poignant Christingle service and lit their candles carefully, celebrating the coming of the Christ child during advent.  Y2 was also a joyous performance with a high standard of acting and singing. The children really got in to character and did a fantastic job.  Y3’s performance was also very enjoyable with beautiful singing as they told the Christmas story.  I have just watched Y6’s soiree which was very moving.  The children’s singing was set to their projects reflecting World War One, which showed great empathy and respect.

The choir were performing to the residents of St Christopher’s Care Home when Santa visited yesterday but that didn’t distract them from performing beautifully and connecting with the residents.

All the children thoroughly enjoyed watching the virtual pantomime on Wednesday. Many thanks to the Friends of Bridgewater for funding this and putting smiles on faces.

We say goodbye and thank you to Mrs Bradford Parnell after working here for many years and wish her well for the future.

Finally, it is with sadness balanced with warm memories that we announce that Mr Humphreys is transferring to a smaller school.  We will miss him as he has been an integral part of our community, out in all weathers and looking after us all with kindness and sometimes a harrumph.  Mr Humphreys is a private man and doesn’t like a fuss but he has always written us funny poems at different times. He would leave them pinned to a door or a cupboard and in return we have written him a poem as we wish him well:

                                                   Goodbye Mr Humphreys

We can’t believe you’re leaving us

Off to pastures new

We know you don’t like a fuss

But here’s a goodbye to you!

We’ll miss your laugh, the kindly words

The trains, the Christmas hat

The poems and the friendly face

The help and all the chats!

You’ve been a constant in our lives

Through happy times and sad

Helping us along the way

You’re a star, the best we’ve had.

Enjoy your time at your new school

But don’t forget us here

We wish you and Viv the very best

Health and happiness through the years.

Now it’s time to say goodbye

We’re sad to see you go

But you’ll take with us all our thanks

We know we’ll miss you so!

Happy Christmas and best wishes for the New Year

Alison Harvey
