Dear Parents

A Week of Exciting Learning

This week has been a busy week of learning as always at Bridgewater. A love of Maths has been sparked in Reception where they are counting and recording their numbers in the continuous provision in very creative ways.  Nursery have been busy decorating their headbands ready for Christmas celebrations. Thank you to Y1 for explaining the Christingle message so beautifully. Y2 have done incredibly well learning their phonics and were showing their understanding of texts when I visited them.  Y3 have been working on their explanation texts about creatures they have created and learning about the physical features of rivers in geography. In the Inspire building, Y4 have been learning about how the design of the Viking Longships helped them in battle. Y5 have enjoyed researching the Gods and Goddesses of the Ancient Greeks and Y6 have been investigating the effect of exercise on their heart rates and relating this to their prior learning on circulation. Overall, a big thank you to the children this week, who have been helping and supporting each other and impressing their teachers with their enthusiasm and good manners!

Covid-19 Measures

As reflected in the local and national news, we are having to be additionally cautious in the run up to the Christmas holidays. Thank you for wearing a mask as you move around the school site, unless you are medically exempt. If you or your child have symptoms or have recorded a positive LFT test, please book a PCR test as soon as possible. You can order them online or attend a test centre for a faster result. In the meantime, please stay at home until the results are returned and inform the school office of any positive result. We are working hard to keep everyone safe and well in this period and appreciate your support and co-operation.

Communication

In recent days, some communications have been sent to the School Office, which were signed as representing all parents from a year group. Subsequently, other parents have told us that they have been unhappy with this, as the views expressed were not in line with their own. In the future, please make sure that you only share your own views when contacting the school, thank you.

Goodbyes and New Year Welcomes

The end of 2021 sees us saying goodbye to some of our colleagues, who are moving on to new schools or opportunities. Although with us for a short time, we will be sorry to see Mr Yaseen leave Year 4 as he moves to be closer to his family near London. Miss Sheik is leaving to pursue new adventures and I know the children that have benefited from her calm and nurturing approach will miss her. Finally, Mrs Holding is leaving us after many years as a teacher and music specialist to take up a post much closer to her home and young family. There can’t be many children in Bridgewater who will have not enjoyed taking part in music lessons and performances under Mrs Holding’s guiding hand. She has enthused a love for music throughout the school and we wish her well in her new position.

As we say goodbye, we also get a chance to say hello to new members of the Bridgewater team. We welcome Miss Heather Burlington who will be taking over from Mr Yaseen. We are also delighted to welcome back Mr Ben Ebsworth, who some parents will remember as a much respected teacher at Bridgewater some years ago. He will  be taking over from Mrs Holding in the Summer term and meanwhile 4 Wiltshire will be in the safe hands of Mrs White, Assistant Headteacher and Mr Howard, who both know the children well. In Year 5, we will welcome Mrs Jana O’Brien, an experienced KS2 teacher who is excited to be joining the Y5 team in January.

Christmas Jumper Day

Thank you to everyone for supporting the Christmas Jumper Day so generously for Save the Children or The Young Adult Gifts collection, which our colleague Mrs Sue Biddle was such a dedicated supporter of. It has been lovely to see the children so excited in a myriad of winter and sparkly themes.

Have a good weekend,

Alison Harvey & Frances Troop
