Investigating Evolution

Today Year 6 enjoyed learning about Charles Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection.  We learnt about finches in the Galapagos Islands and how they adapted to fit their envrionment and food sources.  We then carried out our own investigations, observing which 'beaks' would work best for different food types.  We carried out a fair test using different stationery as bird beaks and tested to see which 'foods' they would pick up best and which birds we thought would be most successful. 

We then compared our results as a class and had to work out the mean average for each beak type before putting our results into a graph.  Next lesson we will be using our results to pull out findings and make conclusions on which birds we thought would be most successful at survival in different environments and why.
