Dear Parents

Reading for All

It can’t be emphasised enough the importance of sharing stories and reading to children right through primary school, to enrich their vocabulary and imagination that transfers to their writing skills across the curriculum.  Avid readers get a great head start in their learning.

The family ‘Reading Café’ was a really lovely event this Wednesday, when the children shared books with their Mums, Dads and siblings in the library and ate breakfast croissants and muffins.  Thanks go to Mrs Tasher, our Librarian, Miss Paine and Miss Conroy.

Thank you Miss Conroy (who has had a very busy week) who ran two reading information sessions on Thursday, sharing the techniques used to develop the children’s reading skills as they read with adults.  The feedback was very positive.

Next Thursday is World Book Day, where the children will be carrying out book related sessions and will be twinned with their alternative year group classes.

Y4 Exhibition

The Y4 Ancient Egypt Exhibition was stunning.  It is so impressive to see the research and passion that goes in to their learning, leading to original representations and collaboration with their families.  The work was to a very high standard – well done everyone.  I was slightly taken aback when one mother came through the gate with a full sized model of a mummy!  I thought it was Alicia but she wasn’t far behind thankfully.

To Infinity and Beyond

Y5 have had a wonderful day of space exploration at the Space Centre in Leicester today.  They showed great interest in the exhibits, the workshop and the planetarium show whilst demonstrating impeccable behaviour.  What a fantastic day!

The Journey

On Monday Mrs Sinclair, our writing leader, led a whole school assembly introducing a beautiful story called ‘The Journey’ by Aaron Becker.  It is a picture book with layers of understanding and has stimulated a lot of discussion across the school, inspiring the children to be avid writers.  I can’t wait to read the finished pieces.

Thank you to Miss McDonnell’s class (2 Matisse) for a fabulous assembly about Neil Armstrong’s life.  There was lots of lovely singing, dancing and acting.  Mrs Wise was very impressed.

Have a good weekend.

Alison Harvey
