Dear Parents

Wellbeing week

Art is contagious in school with the library packed to the rafters with children keen to try origami in the Art Lab.  They achieved great things with Miss Williams and Mrs Tortora and many made heart shapes as it is St Valentine’s Day today, there are some lovely pictures on Twitter.  The children who missed out this time will be first priority next time.

In assembly every morning this week the children have been selecting songs to sing together to raise our spirits and improve our well-being.

Many children have been outside with Mrs Wise, Miss Masson and Mrs Beirne carrying out some winter jobs.  The older children have been supporting the younger children to plant flowers, seeds and bulbs, carrying out some litter picking, they have made some signage and worked hard to tidy up Mrs Biddle’s garden which has been very satisfying and also worked wonders on our well-being.

Coronavirus

With the spread of coronavirus around the world, the government have reminded us of the following basic hygiene rules:

·        always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze.  Bin the tissue and wash your hands or use a sanitiser gel

·        wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport.  Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available

·        avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands

·        avoid close contact with people who are unwell

World Book Day Challenge - Share a Million Stories

The school is taking part in a nationwide challenge to share as much reading as possible, which should get our children buzzing about reading.  The children will be bringing a bookmark home to stamp, where 10 minutes reading is equal to one stamp.  This will run from 27 February to 29 March.

Mrs Tasher has pledged that we will complete 15,000 shares and if we beat this, there are chances to win prizes.  Let’s go for it!

Parking, Pollution and Consideration Alert

Local residents who live opposite the green area in Milverton Crescent have noticed on several occasions that parents have been cleaning their children’s shoes and discarding the soiled tissues to the elements.  They witnessed a father of a young girl, who drove away in a dark Range Rover, cleaning her shoes and throwing the used tissues down on the grass, which is wholly unacceptable behaviour.

The local residents are also frustrated by a lady who sounds her horn most evenings to get her daughters attention.  Please can you get out of your car to gain the child’s attention and dispose of your rubbish in a bin or take it home.  Thank you

I have found it worrying this term when I watch drivers, who when they see a member of staff on the gate, swerve to park in Ellis way which is narrow and dangerous.  It also concerns me that people park in the small private car park next to school and reverse out narrowly missing our children.

We will remind everyone of the parking rules at the start of next term.  No one should be parking in the drop-off zone at peak times and we shall be closing the gates when Mr Humphreys comes into the building to set up the hall for assemblies meaning that those with blue badges will need to be offsite by 9.00 am.

Coat Sale message from Mrs Dempsey

Cold weather and another storm is due!  ‘Coats for Kids’ will be at Moulton Community Centre on Sunday 16 February between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm THIS SUNDAY.  Pop along and collect a coat if you need one for your child or know a child that does.

Attendance

Congratulations to 3 Mondrian who have the highest attendance across the school with a combined percentage attendance of 98.05%.  Well done and keep it up.

Class assembly

Thank you 1Goldsworthy for a super assembly with a pirate theme.  You were awesome geographers to know so many facts about the world and these skills must have helped you travel the open seas as well as finding some treasure in our school pond.  Ooh arr!!

Have a great half term.

Alison Harvey
