Growing minds…

What a busy week we have had.

In English we have been learning to retell the story of ‘The Enormous Turnip’. Upon reflection Year 1 felt that this story lacked adjectives and that the author has not considered them

when writing this narrative. With this in mind, the children worked incredibly hard to generate three adjectives to describe each character. These word banks was very useful when the children came to rewrite the stories on Thursday and Friday. The children truly worked their socks off and produced some lovely stories.

We also because illustrators in computing, designing illustrations for different pages of The Enormous Turnip. We had to make sure our illustration matched the text on the page. During this term we will use this plan to make our illustrations come to life on the iPads. images-1

In Science the children have been learning about planting and the conditions plants need to grow. As scientists the children have been making predictions about what will happen to plants grown in different conditions. By the end of the term the children will be able to evaluate the outcomes and see if their predictions were correct.

  1. Faith loved this topic, she recited the story on a number of occasions including the actions. What a fun way of learning. She’s also been telling me “mummy I’ve been so so busy writing so much”

  2. Grace S has looked at other versions of this story and compared them to the version she heard at school.
